Health Functional Foods (HFF)

• Individual Recognition HFF (IR-HFF): Ingredients individually recognized by MFDS that do not yet exist in the health functional code. These require a specific review based on clinical tests and functionality assessment standards.

Overseas Manufacturer Registration

Under the Special Act on Import Food Safety Management, all overseas facilities producing food for the South Korean market must be registered with MFDS before importation.

Formula and Labeling Review

Formula reviews determine the eligibility and usage levels of ingredients and additives based on Korean requirements. Simultaneously, product labels must be reviewed against labeling regulations to minimize the risk of non-compliance and advertising violations.

Customs Inspection

Imported food undergoes mandatory inspection at customs. For shipments over 100 kg, the product may be recognized as an "overhaul" performance when suitable. For shipments less than 100 kg, if it is not the first time, only document inspection is typically needed, though MFDS maintains a chance for random sample inspection.
