Background of China GHS

In order to establish and unify hazardous chemical classification standards and hazard information communication tools (safety data sheets (SDS) and labels) on a global scale, the United Nations issued GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals) in 2003. GHS is gradually promoted by the United Nations and the competent agencies of member states on a global scale, and many countries have adopted this normative document, including China. Although the specific implementation status of GHS varies from country to country/region, in the absence of a comprehensive understanding of local regulations, it is very logical to provide SDS and labels that comply with GHS specifications.

The official implementation of the "Regulations on the Control over Safety of Hazardous Chemicals" in December 2011 marked that China officially began to implement the United Nations GHS from the height of national administrative regulations.
